Sappho-illustration
Spot illustration (that made it to the cover as well) of Sappho the Greek poet for Turun Ylioppilaslehti Tylkkäri 01/22.
The essay covered how Sappho's poems been burned and incorrectly translated because she wrote a love poem to women. It was humbling process to learn about her influence, study different sculptures and incorporate vaporware aesthetics to complete the look.
Anti-debate illustrations
I illustrated a essay about politics in universities and the culture of anti-debates for Tylkkäri- Turku University magazine 06/2021.
Spot illustrations
The essay covers politics in universities and the culture of anti-debates. I approached the topic with the idea that anti debate could be seen as a bunch of people making a lot of noise and not listening to others + actively trying to silence others by stuffing instruments with trash. So in this visual, noise or a voice symbolizes a political output.
Bitcoin illustrations for the front cover & article
I illustrated the front cover and a article with spot illustrations of bitcoin for Tylkkäri- Turku University magazine 01/2021.
In bitcoin slang the ones owning a bit portion of the coins are called whales and their actions cause riffles and waves that affect the whole market- hence the sea theme.
It was challenging but fun to combine intangible bitcoin subjects with sea elements. I used various references to create a rich illustration, for example 3D models and video footage for the sea turtle, blue whale and the shark.
Loneliness spot illustration
Spot illustration for a poetic essay from the point of view of writing for a friend from a mentally lonely place. Tylkkäri 01/21.
Consumerism spot illustration
Spot illustration for a essay covering consumerism, minimalism and how Moomin characters can teach us about owning things. Tylkkäri 06/20.
Gendered politics spot illustration
Spot illustration for a essay covering the sexism and stereotypes that the media holds of the women in politics. The essay covers how men are praised for being proactive and building things and women are seen as less/denied taking space. Tylkkäri 05/20.
